Become Part of Our Story

We believe literature is best shared. You will be able to join our regular bookish gatherings in the heart of Casco Viejo to celebrate the tactile joy of the written word and connect with fellow readers.

One Good Thing

An evening of meaningful recommendations, thoughtful conversation & inspiration.

Share one thing with the group: a book, a film, a podcast, a work of art, or an idea.

One recommendation.

One conversation.

Shared Inspiration.

The first meeting will be to meet and greet and set up how we want the bookclub to be run. Please bring a few ideas for reads (three per person would be good) which we can use to kick off the choice of the first book to read as a group.

Three Authors, Three Books
An afternoon of readings and conversation with three local authors: Celia Bassols, Lyndi Allison & Diane Maxwell.

Celia Bassols

In 2018, Celia Bassols decided it was time for a change. After investigating her options Celia moved to Panama City, Panama to try her luck there.

Then came COVID. Like so many others, Celia looked for something to occupy her time. She unearthed an assignment from a professor. It was the premise for a suspense novel. After the lockdown lifted, she was put on the path of Tranquilo Retreat, a writer’s refuge in Coronado and resurrected a one-time screenplay and successfully turned it into her first novel.

Dead Ends is a suspense novel that takes place in Washington, DC, the capital city of the United States. The story begins when Lucy Campbell thinks she sees a couple in a passionate embrace while she is walking her dog before dawn. The dog smells death in the air and becomes uncontrollable and loud. Later Lucy finds one half of the couple face down in the water and reports it to the police where she meets Joe Griffiths who runs the DC Harbor Station. There is immediate chemistry. The killer, is watching the scene transpire. He must find her. With only the dog’s bark to guide him, he sets out to discover who Lucy is – he has three days...

Lyndi Allison

As a tween, Lyndi would walk miles to borrow books from the bookmobile, then tuck herself into quiet corners to read them. Now, she writes stories for young readers and adults that confront hard truths, invite healing, and draw from the stillness she finds in nature.

The Gem Exchange follows three women, a trafficking researcher, a free-spirited artist, and a thirteen-year-old girl, whose lives collide in Panama when they are drawn into a dangerous underground trafficking network. As the stakes turn deadly, all three women must summon the courage to fight back and reclaim their freedom.

Diane Maxwell

Diane immigrated from the United States to Panama in early 2012. She has always put pen to paper but did not start publishing her works until after the pandemic. Her first book, An Expat’s Struggle – Making a Home in Panama, is a memoir describing the ups and downs of relocating to another country. Next came The Kathy Vallory Mystery Series about a retired nurse turned international pet sitter who  solves murders at each job location - one even takes place in Nueva Gorgona, Panama. Now, she has just finished two years of research to produce a historical fiction called, My American Family – 1865-1965.

In My American Family 1865–1965 enjoy a multigenerational saga that weaves through 100 years of American history. Follow four different families as they merge into one as they experience life in Ohio, South Dakota, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Tennessee, and California. Real names, dates, places, and events lend to the authenticity of this story that is easily relatable to your own ancestors’ experience in the United States.
